Travelwings South Africa recently undertook a green transformation initiative through tree planting promising a brighter tomorrow. This CSR (corporate social responsibility) effort aims toward sustainability and community upliftment. In addition, Travelwings devotes the month of April to eco-initiatives where a portion of their customers’ bookings contribute to tree planting activities. Shades Of Green: Tree Planting CSR Program
A Tree-mendous Collaboration
Travelwings along with Food & Trees for Africa and Lejwe La Thuso Foundation undertook a tree planting initiative in Soweto, Dobsonville (Boikanyo Higher Primary School) on 10th May 2024. The efforts aim to promote environmental sustainability, improve air quality, and involve the local community. By planting 70 trees (some fruit-bearing) in the school, Travelwings sought to create a greener and healthier environment for the students and raise awareness about the goodness of nature.
Sowing Seeds Of Sustainability
The event began with the melodious singing by the choir of Lejwe La Thuso (meaning, Stone of Help). This non-profit organization focuses on the service of the community and the underprivileged. The project was further initiated by Mr. Patrick O’Connor, Travelwings South Africa’s Business Development Manager, and guest speaker. Mr. Tshediso, the facilitator of Food and Trees for Africa, enthusiastically demonstrated tree planting methods and the skills involved. Participants – students, and the Travelwings team, began sowing the seeds of sustainability by following instructions on planting trees step-by-step.
Cultivating A Greener Tomorrow With Love
Food and Trees for Africa took tremendous efforts from sourcing the designated location to providing the necessary tools to supply compost and tree saplings. Its facilitator gave an engaging demonstration that got participants rolling their sleeves, picking shovels, and getting their hands dirty. He further advises the attendees to shower love while tree planting by massaging the sapling. The informative interactions got everyone in the event bonding with nature while planting multiple trees for their fruit and shade.
Final Word Of Thanks
In addition to being educational and fun, the tree planting event was also engaging. Everyone in attendance enthusiastically participated in the CSR activity benefiting the environment and the underprivileged community.
